Health prep 'needed' before holiday
Whether you are going abroad for a quick European break or an extended and exotic Cambodian holiday, you need to be prepared for any health problems.
This is according to Heather Edgington, manager of Atlas Travel Clinic, who is urging travellers to take precautions when travelling to foreign countries.
While those travelling to Africa or Asia may be aware that they need vaccinations before departure, there are a number of other health factors that should also be considered, she said.
Holidaymakers need to be aware of local issues such as high temperatures, drinking water, traditional cuisine and things such as mosquitoes.
"They need to know about travel in these countries, the problems with the transport, the possibility of becoming injuired in an accident," she added.
Those on a Cambodian holiday for example should remmember that medical facilities are few and far between, Figures reported by the BBC estimate that for every 1,700 people there is only one doctor in the country.
Ms Edgington advised: "They have to think in advance about what they are going to do if things go wrong."
